Cultivating the

Art of Seeing

Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Photography came very late. It was an afterthought of sorts when I went solo walking in the woods during the pandemic. It began as documenting what I saw so that I could share the adventures with friends on social media. Over time, it became a habit of noticing what was noteworthy around me—the curve of a stem, a ray of light, the geometry of a seed pod. Whatever “skill” I learned grew out of simply wanting the image to show what had caught my eye and heart.

Then I learned that the meditative approach to photography that I practiced intuitively had a basis in both spirituality and neuroscience. The short take is that Art and Nature are good for your brain and spirit, whether you’re making it or looking at it.
